Numina — Terms of Service

Last updated: 12 October 2025

Plain-Language Summary (non-binding)

Numina is an AI-assisted reflection and guidance service for personal transformation. It's not therapy, medical, or legal advice, and it's not for emergencies. You own your content and grant us permission to process it to provide the service. We handle sensitive data under your explicit consent and our Privacy Policy. Please use the service respectfully and lawfully. We'll notify you before any material changes to these terms take effect.

Early Alpha Notice

Numina is an early alpha release. Features are incomplete and may change frequently. You may encounter bugs, service interruptions, data-loss risk, slower performance, and occasional inaccuracies in AI outputs. Please keep backups of anything important and evaluate all outputs with care.

1) Who We Are

Numina ("we," "us," "our") provides an AI-powered personal transformation platform operated by a mission-driven non-profit entity (see our site imprint for full legal details). These Terms govern your use of our websites, apps, and services (the "Service").

2) Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you accept on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind that organisation.

3) Eligibility

You must be at least 18 (or the age of majority in your country).

If you are 16–17 in the UK/EU, you may use the Service only with verifiable parental/guardian consent.

The Service is not intended for children under 16.

4) Accounts & Security

You are responsible for all activity under your account. Keep your credentials confidential and notify us promptly of suspected misuse. We may take reasonable steps (e.g., temporary holds) to protect accounts and the Service.

5) Sensitive Data & Explicit Consent

The Service may process special-category data (e.g., health, mental health, spiritual or philosophical beliefs, sexual life) contained in journals or reflections you upload. By using such features, you explicitly consent to our processing of this data as described in the Privacy Policy. You can withdraw consent at any time, though this may limit functionality.

6) Your Content & Licences

Ownership. You retain all rights in content you submit ("User Content").

Licence to Numina. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, revocable licence to host, process, analyse, transmit, display, and make technical copies of your User Content solely to operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service for you (e.g., prompts, embeddings, backups, moderation).

Aggregated/Anonymised Data. We may use de-identified or aggregated data for analytics, research, and reporting.

Feedback. If you provide ideas or suggestions, you grant us a perpetual, royalty-free licence to use them without obligation.

7) AI Features & Limitations

The Service uses machine-learning models to generate outputs. These outputs are informational only and do not constitute medical, mental-health, legal, or financial advice. Do not rely on AI outputs for decisions that may cause harm. We strive for accuracy but do not guarantee completeness, correctness, or availability.

8) Crisis & Safety Notice

Not for emergencies. If you or someone else may be at risk of harm, contact local emergency services immediately. We do not monitor for crises in real time.

9) Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • a) violate law or third-party rights;
  • b) upload or share unlawful, exploitative, or abusive content;
  • c) harass, threaten, or promote hate or discrimination;
  • d) infringe intellectual property;
  • e) bypass security, probe, or reverse engineer the Service;
  • f) misuse outputs to spread harmful medical/legal/financial misinformation;
  • g) scrape or bulk-export content to build competing models or services;
  • h) interfere with or disrupt other users or our infrastructure.

10) Third-Party Services & Transfers

We rely on third-party providers (e.g., hosting, authentication, analytics, LLM/model providers). Your data may be processed outside your country with appropriate safeguards. See our Privacy Policy for details and categories of subprocessors.

11) Non-Profit Donations & Payments (if applicable)

Donations support our mission and are not in exchange for specific outcomes. Where required by law, we issue receipts; tax deductibility depends on your jurisdiction. If we offer paid subscriptions, we will clearly disclose prices, renewal terms, and cancellation rights (including any required cooling-off periods).

12) Intellectual Property

We (or our licensors) own the Service, including software, models, and brand assets. These Terms do not transfer any ownership to you. Do not remove proprietary notices or use our marks without permission.

13) Suspension & Termination

We may suspend or terminate access for material breaches, legal risk, security threats, or misuse. Where reasonable, we will provide notice and an opportunity to cure. Upon termination, we will close your account and, consistent with our Privacy Policy, delete or de-identify personal data after applicable retention periods. Where technically feasible, you may export your User Content before closure.

14) Changes to the Service & to These Terms

Given the early-alpha status, features and performance may change frequently. For material changes to these Terms, we will provide at least 30 days' notice (e.g., by email or in-app). Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

15) Warranties & Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We disclaim all warranties to the fullest extent permitted by law, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.

16) Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for:

  • lost profits, revenues, or data;
  • indirect, special, or consequential losses;
  • harm arising from reliance on AI outputs;
  • events beyond our reasonable control.

17) Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from third-party claims arising from your unlawful use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

18) Governing Law, Venue & Consumer Rights

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that consumers may bring claims in their country of residence where required by mandatory law.

19) Notices & Contact

We will send legal notices to the email associated with your account. You can contact us at the address shown in our site imprint or via the support channel listed there.

20) Entire Agreement & Severability

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any feature-specific terms, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service. If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
